During this stage we researched the packaging of other Hemp brands to evaluate what they did well and what to avoid, but also so we could ensure we created a different look in order for Avila to stand out in the saturated CBD market.
LABEL DESIGN EXAMPLE
Using our research and the Avila brand guidelines we created a prototype for the Avila Tincture. The challenge was to fit all the important information onto a label with small dimensions, as the products themselves were small.
LABEL DESIGN VARIATIONS
Once the label sample was signed off, there were other products that also required labels with different information and label dimensions. So we needed to adapt the design across the board to be consistent.
COLOUR CODING AND MASS CREATION
With all label variations signed off, we needed to now create all the different flavours that came with each product. We decided to colour code each flavour to make it easier for customers to distinguish when shopping. We then had the challenge of mass creating all the labels that were required, creating a template to ensure each one is consistent.
PROOF, FEEDBACK, PRINT READY
As we have been gathering feedback at each label example stage, design feedback was minimal but as we were dealing with US laws around CBD and the information is often subject to change. Therefore when packaging up each label in Adobe we ensured each file would be easy to edit with future use. We also made each label print ready.
We needed a way to put images of each product onto the website, before they had been printed, so we could showcase what Avila would be releasing online ahead of time. In addition, as Avila is based in the USA, us coming over to photograph each product would be impractical. The solution we can come up with was to create a 3D renders, which once made, could easily be updated with new label flavours or text changes.

Once described as “so awkward she’s charming” by a friend, there isn’t a day that goes by without her accidentally slipping in an innuendo. In winter, she hibernates in a blanket of books and netflix, but by late spring emerges with her trusty birkenstocks, ready to go on photography adventures and socialise with the neighbourhood cats. If she were a pokemon she would without a doubt be Pikachu, but a buzzfeed quiz has determined her to be a Magikarp. She’s a firm believer that buzzfeed quizzes cannot be trusted, under any circumstances.
