Start this month right by taking part in Plastic Free July®! Plastic pollution has become one of the world’s most pressing environmental problems, and as an individual seems overwhelmingly impossible to solve. However, campaigns like Plastic Free July® demonstrate that if we each make a small change, then collectively it will make a huge difference.
What is the challenge?
Plastic Free July® is a global movement that has been going since 2011. Every year millions of people take part by refusing single-use plastics throughout July (and beyond!).
The campaign is designed to help us educate ourselves on plastic pollution and develop better habits to improve our future. You don’t have to be perfect and go completely plastic free, as long as you’re willing to give it a go. By adopting even a few plastic free products into your life, we will be one step closer to a world free of plastic waste.
Take me to the challenge!
You’re probably eager to dive in like we are! There are a lot of ways you can get involved - from signing up for weekly tips and tricks, or by buying eco-friendly alternatives on your next shopping trip.
At Rusty Monkey, we’re challenging ourselves with a small task a day and have created our very own calendar! If you like the sound of a calendar to guide you through Plastic Free July you can download it below, or follow us on our social platforms to see our progress!
It doesn’t matter if you don’t complete all the challenges; just changing some small things can really make a difference. In the words of the wise zero waste chef, Anne-Marie Bonneau: “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
So let’s join forces and help put an end to single-use plastics this month!

She/her; green/blue. Zoe is a designer, daydreamer and self-anointed snack queen. Once described as “so awkward she’s charming” by a friend, there isn’t a day that goes by without her accidentally slipping in an innuendo. In winter, she hibernates in a blanket of books and netflix, but by late spring emerges with her trusty birkenstocks, ready to go on photography adventures and socialise with the neighbourhood cats. If she were a pokemon she would without a doubt be Pikachu, but a buzzfeed quiz has determined her to be a Magikarp. She’s a firm believer that buzzfeed quizzes cannot be trusted, under any circumstances.
